Drilling for a noise wall - Northeast Extension Project

Project

Name of Project: Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension
Type of Project: Noise Walls
Completion Date: July 2019
Location: Telford, PA
Duration of Project: 10 months
General Contractor: R.E. Pierson Construction
Owner: Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission

Description

For this project we installed over 950 drilled shafts along the PA Turnpike Northeast Extension for new noise walls. This was a big project, so at times we needed two drilling rigs on site at once. Also, we used both a day and a night shift crew to keep up with an accelerated schedule. The majority of the holes were 42” in diameter, and all holes had a minimum rock socket of 5’ deep. We drilled into hard limestone bedrock.
